Frequently Asked Questions
How is GPA calculated?
GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the following method:
- Each letter grade is assigned a grade point value (e.g., A = 4.0, B = 3.0)
- Multiply each course's grade points by its credit hours
- Sum these values to get total quality points
- Divide total quality points by total credits to get GPA
What is the grade point scale?
Our calculator uses the following grade point scale:
- A+ = 4.3, A = 4.0, A- = 3.7
- B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, B- = 2.7
- C+ = 2.3, C = 2.0, C- = 1.7
- D+ = 1.3, D = 1.0, D- = 0.7
- F = 0.0
How do Pass/Fail courses affect GPA?
Pass/Fail courses are handled as follows:
- Passing grades (P) count toward total credits but not GPA
- These credits appear in "Total Credits" but not "GPA Credits"
- Pass grades do not affect your GPA calculation
- Failing grades count as 0.0 in GPA calculations
What are quality points?
Quality points represent the numerical value of your grades:
- Calculated by multiplying grade points by course credits
- Sum of all courses' quality points
- Used to calculate final GPA when divided by total credits
- Helps track academic performance across different credit loads
